Who we are

This website is run by Hitchin Language Centre Ltd. (registered in England and Wales, company number 03108871), of Eastway Enterprise Centre, 7 Paynes Park, Hitchin, SG5 1EH. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. You can reach us at enquiries@hitchinlanguagecentre.co.uk.

The enquiry form

If you use the form on our contact page, we collect your name, your email address, your phone number if you choose to give it, and your message. The form sends your message to us by email and sends you a copy. We use these details to answer your enquiry and, if you go on to join a class, to arrange it. Our lawful basis is that this is necessary to take the steps you have asked for before any agreement between us, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us. We consider that our interest in replying to people who contact us does not override your rights, because we only use your details to answer you.

Your enquiry is kept in our email for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any class you join. If you email us directly instead of using the form, we handle that email in the same way. Providing your details is your choice. If you do not provide them we cannot answer your enquiry.

Spam protection (reCAPTCHA)

The form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps us tell people from automated spam. When you use the contact page, reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and browser and sends it to Google for analysis. This is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We use it only to keep the form working for real enquiries. reCAPTCHA gives us a spam-risk score to help protect the form. That score does not make any automated decision about you personally.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or advertising services. Google reCAPTCHA may store a small amount of data in your browser on the contact page, strictly for the purpose of protecting the form from abuse.

Hosting and security logs

The website is hosted by Vercel in London. Like every web host, Vercel keeps technical logs of requests for a limited period, including your IP address, to keep the service secure and running. We do not use these logs to identify visitors.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of the services we use (Google reCAPTCHA and Microsoft) are based in the United States. Where your information is transferred there, the transfer is protected by the UK-US Data Bridge, which the UK Government recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection.

Links to other websites

Our timetables and enrolment form are documents held on our Microsoft OneDrive, and some pages link to other organisations’ websites. Those sites have their own privacy notices, which apply once you leave ours.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you (access), ask us to correct it (rectification), delete it (erasure), restrict how we use it (restriction of processing), give you a machine-readable copy so you can move it to another provider (portability), or object to how we use it (objection). Email us at enquiries@hitchinlanguagecentre.co.uk and we will respond. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

We will update this page if the way the website handles your information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
